Connecting to an Exchange server using a Mac.

There are a few options available to a Mac user that would like to connect to their workplace's Exchange server.

1. Using Entourage.
Microsoft does provide a full featured mail client with their Office for Mac suite (only the Standard version, not Student and Teacher) which does provide Exchange connectivity. It uses a slightly more simplified connection to the server but does offer Out of Office functions, Public Folders, Delegation, and Push Email.

2. Using Outlook via Parallels.
Running Parallels on a Mac is like running an entire Windows machine, 'in a window.'
This offers the most amount of connectivity and features since you are actually connecting to the Exchange server as your Windows co-workers are. Parallels does try to make this as seamless as possible, but Performance on your Mac will decrease since you are now running not only a mail client, but an entire Operating System as well.

3. Looking to the future.
The next version of the Mac operating system, named 'Snow Leopard', is said to include connectivity to Microsoft's Exchange server right 'out of the box.'
Apple's Mail, Address Book, and iCal programs are being re-written to provide Exchange connectivity. However this may be limited to the newest version of Exchange 2007.
